Animals in the film

I've noticed a lot of animals in the film.

Can you name them?

I'll start off (it's not the first animal, but a fun one):

The cow that moos in the middle of Eric Liddell saying:

But looking about me now - the heather on the hills --

I can see he was right.

It's very special. Thank you for welcoming us home.

And thank you ... for reminding me that I am, and will be whilst I breathe,

[moo]

... a Scot.

When we're first introduced to Jenny and Sandy "He may be your best friend, Sandy, but he's my best brother!...."

She's walking what appears to be a West Highland White Terrier (aka "Westie"). Later on in the film, when she hears Eric refuses to run on Sunday, she appears to be washing the dog, who'd rather be anywhere but the tub! May be the quintessential Scottish dog besides the Scottie.

I'm partial to Westies, as I have one pure Westie, and two Westie mixes (the other mix is Cairn terrier and chihuahua). They're all females and we have a ball together - they provide the best canine companionship you can imagine!!! And yeah, they don't like baths either.

Such a cute dog!

I remembered her washing the dog -- great scene -- another brilliant touch either by Colin Welland or by Hugh Hudson! That was going to be one on my list.

I had forgotten that she was walking him in the beginning though! Good catch!

You know, I hadn't noticed what type of dog it was for years, until we got our Westies, and it just leaped out at me!

I suppose the first animals were the horses drawing carriages at Cambridge, starting the scene when Harold and Aubrey pull up to sign in?

You might suppose that, but you'd be supposing wrong!

Oh! [smacks hand on forehead!]

Its the dog on the beach that runs after the runners during the famous intro!!!

Yep!

So now we've got:

* Golden retriever on beach in intro

* Were there any seabirds in that intro? Would have to check.

* Horse(s) and carriage when Aubrey and Harold arrive in Cambridge

* Cow that moos when Eric talks at the Highland Games

* Jenny's Westie on the leash when we meet Sandy and Jenny

* Jenny washing the Westie when news arrives of Eric's refusal to run on Sunday

I have another, in Paris. It's heard, but not seen.

Have you given up on that one?

Hint: It's heard in at least three scenes.

I'm only guessing here, because I haven't gone back to see the footage in question yet, but, is it a bird?

Yes, but which bird(s)? Where?

Are they seagulls when Paddock and Schultz arrive on the boat?

That's not what I'm thinking of, although there are probably a few instances of sea gulls in the film ... perhaps including that.

The bird I'm thinking of is heard in at least three scenes, and in fact lets us know where we are by the sound of its voice.
