Serious Question

Why is this movie called chariots of fire. Is this an allusion to a poem? I mean, are we supposed to fill our minds with an image of horses, with strong beefy thighs and sinewy legs pounding on the ground rhythmically like jackhammers while their bodies are engulfed in flames.

Why not call it "Run Fast 4 God And Pretty Lady?"

It's a poem called Jerusalem by William Blake. It's also kind of (but not actually) a British national anthem. It was made into a hymn and is sung at the end of the film as part of the memorial service which bookends the film. Check out the version by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. 1John4:4

I shall not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, til we have built Jerusalem in Englands green and pleasant land.
