I've been wanting to find out all of this information so that it can be added to the Wikipedia rticle.
Let me know if you find out anything.
Also, the Wikipedia article has no section on "Reception" -- that is, critical (and popular) reception. If you find out some good info about that, let me know.
The only thing I can suggest about your question is Hugh Hudson's commentary track on the 2005 DVD. He says a fair amount about its eranings, but I don't remember how specific or complete he is. .
I remember he wasn't specific about numbers, but said that "it still brings in income". Wonder if Dodi Fayed's and Ian's respective estates still benefit.
You would think that internationally, it compared to the numbers in the U.S., especially over in the UK. Wouldn't be suprised, if all told (US and worldwide), it was well in the 100-150 million dollar range back then.
Well, he may not be Mr. Right, but he certainly is Mr. Smooth!
I was in third grade when this came out, and remember it selling out at a massive multi-plex in Illinois. I distinctly recall hearing two elderly women say as they exited the theater (I was standing nearby because I was listening to the end titles music) "It's a great movie but why on earth do they insist on putting in foul language?"
Pointless story. But, the story goes: middle America, selling out theaters. I believe it was a pulpit-driven, word of mouth thing. Some of the people coming out looked like the variety that might find their way to a theater once every few years, like the aforementioned ladies. They probably didn't return until Ghandi came out.
