I remember the "Captain Caveman" cartoon being popular with us kids back then. Also, college themed films like Animal House (1978) with frat boors like John Belushi and the very appearance of Ringo Starr suggested cave-mannery.

I thought the trend started with One Million Years B.C and Raquel Welch in that skimpy outfit.
shareI don't recall it being a thing. A couple of "caveman" movies came out, but it wasn't a trend or anything.
shareProbably because of films like "Caveman", "Beastmaster", "Eddie Macon's Run", "Take This Job And Shove It", "Ruckus" and "The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper" were films that got endless airings on early 80s HBO.
