the motel
where exactly in Georgia is the motel from the start of the race located? I live in GA, and would love to go see the building, if it's still there

Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle "Dixie"?
The hotel sat right off of Glenwood Rd. at the intersection of I-285. Looking at photos on google maps, it looks like part of it is still there, but the lobby area may have been torn down. I lived about 3 miles from there when it was filmed.
shareLook at Super* Motel website search Decateur GA if the person is correct about the Glenwood road address then might that be it? It seems someone posted something about this before and I was curious also. If someone did post something it seems like the property is still a hotel of some sort. The hotel in the movie is straight out of the 70's (which we were coming out of at the time) dark brown and white and everything had that knights of the round table type of moteef inside, classic.
The motel was the "Olde English Inn" when the movie was made. It was torn down several years ago. It was located just off of I-285 on the east side of Atlanta, not directly on Glenwood Road, but down an access road. It's been awhile since I saw this but I seem to recall a very brief glimpse of a sign in the background and you can see "Olde English Inn" but I could be mistaken. There was a Ferrari dealership in Tucker, GA not far from there where they kept the Ferrari and the Lamborghini when they weren't filming them. A buddy of mine and I went by there to try and see them, but they were out.....damn!
"220...221 whatever it takes"
It makes sense that the start is in Georgia. When Burt and Dom fly in on the plane, you can see the highway sign is from Georgia. However, if that's the real start of the race, why did they have to go up to New Jersey and Pennsylvania?
