Desperately Needs A Remake

Now here is a film that is most in need of a remake. The reason is obvious. Most of the cast members in both films, with the exception of Jackie Chan and perhaps Burt Reynolds, are unknown to the younger generation. It would be impossible for the younger generation to laugh at stars they have never heard of. Do we really expect the average teenager/20 something to laugh at Adrian Barbeau boob jokes? Or Jack Elam and his weird eyes? See what I mean?

Many of the people in the films, especially Part II, were big stars during the 50s and 60s but were has been actors by the late 70s and early 80s; many of them were even dead by the time the younger generation were born.

The Cannonball Run needs an update with actors/actresses that the younger generation are more familiar with. I would like to see people like Seth Rogen or Bradley Cooper star in it. Although, Burt Reynolds and Jackie Chan would certainly need to make appearances. Perhaps Daniel Craig could do the Bond like role that Roger Moore did in the original Cannonball film. What does everyone think?

reply

I think your right. Vin Diesel and or Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) would be good in there too. Burt was rather over sexed in the first one. Bradley Cooper would be great in that role. Having seen him in the A-Team movie were he played a similar character. Perhaps Jamie Fox in place of Sammy Davis Jr. as I'd love to see him back in comedy again. Don't know who would be good for the female leads?

I think in the bond series the car has fallen by the way side to a great degree. As cars are far more sophisticated now then they used to be. GPS for instance is nearly standard equipment now but the ability to track a car you're tailing via radio signal was a big wow factor in the Aston Martin DB5 that Sean drove in Goldfinger. So in many ways standard tech has surpassed any kind of new tech they could add to a car. Roger had a great part in the first Cannonball but it was the car that got him there. Remember the cars in Cannonball Run were also part of the character of the movie.

Probably would need more contemporary roles that would make good parodies of themselves. As many of the original actors and actresses were doing parodies of their persona's. Then there is chemistry too. Comedy is hard to master and even harder without chemistry. At the heart of Cannonball Run is the chemistry between JJ Mclure (Burt Reynolds) and Victor - Capt. Chaos (Dom Deluise). If you can find that again in modern cinema then you may have something.

NONE of the actors you two have mentioned are anywhere near as big and as famous today as the cast of the Cannonball Run were during its time.

Reynolds, Moore, Fawcett, Martin and Davis were all huge household names well known to everyone.

Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Bradley Cooper, Seth Rogen, Jamie Fox etc etc are just two bit third division names when it comes to actual stardom. None are household names everywhere.

Actually, and you read it here first, a remake sequel is under consideration over at Warner Bros with J J McClure returning as race organiser and a mooted all-star cast being considered, to make it a true sequel to the original 2 films.

Yes but a lot of the original actors should show up for the third film though in my opinion.

Um, a sequel wouldn't be a "remake".

Your comment was factually correct at the time of your comment..., before they made Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which serves as a remake of A New Hope, a sequel to Return of the Jedi and a reboot of the Star Wars franchise...

THANK YOU!!!

The film works because all of the people involved were celebs loved by the public. No egos in the film; everyone wanted to work/play around. You can tell watching it that everyone had a blast. A film like this cannot be remade, nor should it. The days are gone with a caliber cast like this.

reply

I totally agree with you there about that!

reply

I agree with you that it does not need to be remade at all! If they would like to add a third installment to the franchise then this is how they do it like I mentioned above. They simply set it up where it is the children of the original Cannonballers with some of the actors and actresses of today with a lot of the main actors of the original film making appearances to bring in the fans of the original film and the new fans of today's generation. I think that would work in my opinion.

reply

I agree with you there on what you said!

reply

Why do a reboot when they can carry on with the franchise of the Cannonball Run? What I suggest that they do is set it up where all of the main characters got married and had children. The children take over to race in the Cannonball Run that they heard their parents talk about. Therefor having today's generation see the actors and actresses that they know about. You mix in some of the original actors of The Cannonball Run 1 and 2 so that today's generation learns about the actors of the past. I would rather see it done like that than a remake.

reply

No it doesn't. The remake will suck. Look around.

Just because a movies CAN be remade, doesn't mean it SHOULD be.

reply

I can't post a link, as the news came from a friend recently who worked at Silver Pictures for a good number of years. Warner know that The Cannonball Run was a cult classic that made great box office and know that with The Fast And Furious series that car action movies make money. Apparently the idea behind it is to approach it as an 'Expendables' style cast with Reynolds returning as race organiser this time to connect to the first 2 films. That is all that Paul M. could tell me.

reply

You are correct about that!

reply

No it should not be done as a remake because if you look at the original films that have been made into remakes have been major flops at the box office.

If they did want to do something here is my suggestion to do a third installment to the Cannonball Run franchise. You just make it where all the main characters in the first two films had children and Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, and the other original actors make appearances in the movie here and there. This would then spark up the next generation of Cannonballers with the actors of today.

When Roger Moore played James Bond he was more of a womanizer than Daniel Craig is as the new James Bond. No disrespect but I would rather see the James Bond franchise stick to its roots and not be altered due to modern times. This is just my opinion about it. Plus, today's generation and future actors need to watch some of these films to learn more about the actors and actresses of the past instead of watching the modern movies. They can learn a lot from the past.

reply

Guy Ritchie may be remaking it.

reply

What he should do is leave the original alone and come up with another title that makes it his without making a remake.

Yeah, you're an idiot.

Ever watch Martin and Lewis, Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers, Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, Jack Benny, Fred Allen, Flip Wilson, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Andy Griffith, Don Knotts. Bill Cosby, George Burns, et al?

How about putting Seth Rogen in an ORIGINAL IDEA instead of yet another disasterous remake like Green Hornet?

Grow up already, and enjoy ALL the generations of talent.
