plot questions--The Breakers???

In scene where Ned runs into Matty and her husband in restaurant, she makes a big point of pointing out that her husband's real estate holdings include The Breakers (only property she mentions by name), like it is some sort of famous beach front resort landmark. But subsequently turns out it is just a small boarded-up motel of no apparent significance. Although it figures into plot later, why is she even bothering even mentioning it as one of her husband's properties? Not like it was a noted site that would have impressed anyone, assuming they even knew what it was to begin with.

She mentions it because it figures into plot later. In real life she would not have mentioned it.

Two reasons:

(1) it's old and boarded up, but may have been a famous landmark earlier, which makes it worth mention

(2) she already knows Ned jogs in or around that area, and she wants him to think of using it as a body-dumping spot, so she deliberately mentions it

The second one's a stretch, but not TOOO much of one, in my opinion. The first one seems OK to me, though.

And why is Ned impressed? Good Q's. I guess it's just a plot device.

My impression is that it was her way of planting the seed in Ned's mind that it would be a good place to stage the death of her husband. It was perfect timing, too. They were all sitting there, having dinner, Ned was meeting him for the first time, and detesting him/wanting her more with every passing minute.

"Indulge me...while I revel in my time"
