It depends on which definition of "average" you're using at the moment: mean, median, or mode.
Assuming that we're talking only about heterosexual partners and about a closed system, the mean should be the same for men and women. However, the median and mode really don't necessarily have to be even close to the same. Even the means can differ, though, if one gender is more likely than the other to have sex with visiting foreigners or with non-Brits while traveling outside the country (the "averages" were stated to be UK specific, not worldwide). share
