Matheson Hammock

A large part of the movie was filmed at Matheson Hammock Marina (the southern extension of Coral Gables, Florida) - some might be more familiar with Fairchild Tropical Gardens, which is next to Matheson Hammock Park and Marina:

that probably explains why we weren't able to access the park for our usual bicycle ride (lol), because my Dad and I lived about 10 minutes west of there at that time, 29 years ago, and it was a big year for us, my Mom having passed on the year before, so to see this film and to realize our physical closeness to it brings back many memories of our life at that time...

The biggest feature of the park, aside from the marina, was the man-made lagoon that's flushed with sea water at each tide, and the large mangrove hammock that looks unique and smells unique too, especially at low tide (lol), and the land crabs that walk across the road in the early evening, so the local scouts picked a good place to film...

Lots of memories for me, that's for sure...

It was a great movie. I grew up in South Florida and I love any movie set there. It's nice when a movie brings up pleasant memories, even better when they are for a loved one who passed. Thanks for sharing. :-)
