Gets better with each viewing
I "liked" this movie when I first saw it. I went to see for three reasons, Sally Field, Paul Newman and my hometown backdrop of Miami.
I didn't understand everything going on during those innocent days of my youth. But now as I see it again and again...it rings true and I see it not as a blockbuster great but as a finely spun story which hasn't lost but in fact, gained prestige as the years carry on.
Paul Newman was a master...I used to hate him for his "pretty boy looks"...but now all my childish feelings have melted to reveal a really superb actor, who perhaps, never pushed himself onto us...but we are now grateful that he did what he did.
About Sally Field, I am biased...I don't think she can do anything wrong...she will always shine for me.
Melinda Dillon was AMAZING in this movie...it was an Oscar Nomination that was so well deserved. She sent chills down my spine during the movie. Bless her wherever she is.
