Noticed the age difference ot the stars

Newman was 56 at the time, Sally 35...just couldn't believe the romantic part of this movie. I recall Sally Fields played opposite Joanne Woodward, Paul's wife, on a television show about multiple personalities...ie..."The 3 faces of Eve" and Sally was a teenager and now she was playing a love interest to Joanne's husband. Now i recall, the tv movie was "Sybil".

Are you equally incredulous when they paired up Bogart and Bacall?

I could ...easily! And let's face it, it wasn't what you'd call a heavy romance.

The one that got me was Wilfrid Brimley (who BTW was excellent and stole the scene in his role as the mess sorter - outer). At the time of production he was 9 years younger than Newman and yet IMO looked 9 years older.

Paul Newman at 60 was still hot.

Gallagher is conspicuously older than Carter; I could cite numerous reasons why she's attracted to older, powerful men, but let's just say it's a good career move, as long as she doesn't end up as shark-food. I'm pretty sure Gallagher wasn't trying to be convincing for your sake, just for hers. She is portrayed as inexperienced, though she certainly gets kudos for enthusiasm.

nobody cares or should care about age after 18. If they both wanted to based on looks and personality, age would never factor in.

This one gets it

If you can't buy 56 and 35 getting together in a movie, how in the hell do you deal with the real world around you? Have you honestly never seen a pairing like that? There are plenty of couples out there where one is in their 40s/50s and the other is in their ~early 20s~. Some people care about things other than age.

Paul's character was 47. Sally's was 34. That's 13 years. You should have paid attention to the movie. So, your post was based on ignorance. I wish you could see this, so could read your response.
