Massive OFAH fan and finally just got to see the 1986 christmas special "A Royal Flush"
I cant believe what i just watched. Never once felt like a OFAH episode and i cant believe how nasty and evil Del Boy is to poor Rodney.
As for the ending, wow talk about Del being an Utter cnut.
No wonder Jason, Lyndhurst and Sullivan all say how much they hate the Episode. As i understand it John Sullivan never wrote it as he was working on another show and this christmas special was very rushed through.
It is crap.I had the original 76 minute version on tape and then it was re-edited to just under an hour I think for DVD.But I didn't like one single thing about it so I don't even want to to see that version either.
Yeah that episode isn't Del's finest hour but I still like many parts of it such as the scenes at Sids cafe & when Rodney thinks see's the van while shooting in the country.
You do feel incredibly sorry for Rodney at the end though.
They think we're the demons now - Prue Halliwell ~ All Hell Breaks Loose ~ Charmed
thought that was cruel of Del really and the offering of money still confused by the end bit where vicky says to rodney are you still staying the night and he doesnt reply, looks down at table sadly... and she says "yes" someone elaborate on this for me ...
Rodney seeing the van whilst he's shooting is the best moment, otherwise I generally try to avoid this episode. Del is such an unlikeable character in this I find it's just best not to watch this episode.
I thought it was a great episode, but yeah, Dell boy was a real piece of *beep* in this one, and it's always a bad idea when any series turns their most beloved character into a villain. But otherwise, I think this episode was well written, and I actually thought the friendship between Rodney and Victoria came across really well, she was one of the few "birds" in the series that were actually pretty good looking. I can't say the same for Cassandra, I've always thought she was a pretty unlikable character.
It's not that people do not think it's very funny...cos it is. It's more the fact they ruin Del Boy as a character and while Del Boy does use "tough love" in other episodes, in this he is just a complete wanker.
If Del had not been written as such a horrible arse, the episode would have worked far better.
And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best. Sony 16:9
Delboy is supposed to be selfish and self-absorbed at times which is one of the things that makes him funny but they really took off the gloves with this one.
He was downright obnoxious and rotten even resorting to blackmail in the end....I was at least expecting a decent ending where Rodney would really make him feel guilty about his behavior and everything he had done and we get to see the old Delboy pulled down a few dozen pegs, but they mucked that up too. A Royal Flush does remains one of the weirdest episodes of OFAH.
