Whatever happened to the PBS series?

I taped the PBS series of Hitchhiker's Guide back in the 80's but haven't seen it since. I lived in a fringe area at the time and the quality of the tape is iffy. In addition to that, I missed the first ten minutes of the episode The Restaurant at the end of the Universe. It was 12 episodes that went 6 hours. All I find are versions that are really short. Who owned the rights to that one and does anyone know if it will ever see air time again?

There were only 6 episodes, that all in all took 3 hours, and they are out on DVD.

We can't stop here! This is Bat-country!

I realize this is kinda an old post, but PBS never made a Hitchhiker series did they? This person must be talking about the BBC series, right?

English? Who needs that? I'm never going to England!

It was broadcast on PBS - that's what I think the original poster meant.

It was 6 halfhour episodes - just like the DVD (I still need to buy the DVD ...)
