OT Douglas Adams and Dr Who

On Monday the Australian ABC will begin showing Douglas Adams' first bite at Dr Who The Pirate Planet. There is really no excuse for any Hitchhiker fan not to watch it as it is first time that any of his work has been shown on free to air Australian television in a long time.

Starting on Monday the Australian ABC will be showing the Doctor Who serial The Armageddon Factor. Although not credited Douglas Adams began work as script editor by rewriting the last few minutes of the last episode, episode 6 to be shown on 24/5. In fact it was him who changed the the title of the story from Armageddon to The Armageddon Factor. Interestingly the last episode feature a guest appearance by Valentine Dyall who is well known for voicing Deep Thought in the radio and TV version of Hitchhiker. If you have not yet seen Dyall's face here's your chance.

Dyall didn't voice Deep Thought on radio, it was Geoffrey McGivern. Dyall did, however, play Gargravarr in the second phase of the radio series.

The Australian ABC will begin Doctor Who season 17 which was script edited by Douglas Adams today with City of Death (since the opening story Destiny of the Daleks is unable to be shown) at 6pm. City of Death co-written by Douglas Adams under the pseudonym David Agnew is his best work ever.
