DVD problems
For all of you other fans who might have a copy of the DVD, have you noticed that there are some sound problems on there? Seems to me that the voice of the book was cut out in some scenes and just the text on the book is shown.

shareYes. I found it does do this. You can fix it by going into sound options and putting it on mono sound. That, for some reason puts the voice of the book back in.

How can we tell the difference? Is this about the error where the narrator comes from the wrong speaker location?

Sadly, the dvd is unavailable where I live... that too is a dvd problem.

I'm rather suprised to hear you cannot get the DVD in your area. The the miracle that is the internet, there are a lot of possible ways to get this series.
It is almost unheard of here, the TVseries that is, but luckily and by extraordinary coincidence the 2 dvd set was just delivered not more then an hour ago, I found it on ebay from someone who got it from the UK.

Some are selling on eBay, although I can't find the special edition re-release I was looking for...
"What do we do now?"
"Enjoy it..."
A re-release? Don't tell me there's more material on that than on the first DVD release?

It is at Walmart now.
shareYeah...the sound levels of the book seem to be messed up. Even in surround sound, the voice of the book is far too quiet. So it's not just your copy!
shareI don't think it's the DVD. Some DVD players come with just the one audio plug-in socket, so if you have one of those stereo cords with two plugs on each end, you have to choose one or the other. Selecting the "Mono" soundtrack instead of the "Remixed Stereo" soundtrack will bring Peter Jones' voice back.
On the plus side, you get to hear the background music without the narration.
I must admit I rather like the music which opens the first episode.
