actually the only bit that hasn't stood up to time is Zaphod's second head...the guide entries still kick arse :)

Hello . wonder what ever happened to original poster racerg ? ah well ...
I was fooling around in my local video store and saw the BBC TV series
hidden away with a bunch of other oddbits and such. I must say I thoroughly
enjoyed it - watched the 6 shows right through and then the special features
the next day . wonderful ! I also have a copy of the movie and like it too ,
I am actually quite smitten with Zooey Deschanel , an intrigueing voice and
very attractive .
My question : Can you super-fans watch these varied installments with an open
mind and just sit back and enjoy each one on it's own merits ? I come to these
versions with innocence, not having read the books and I think un-biased .
I will be looking for D.Adams books at the used book sales I attend - but you
must be a loyal group ,all I have found so far was a copy of "Last Chance to
See" . so long , be seeing you at the restaurant at the end of the universe.
NO, THE OTHER END OF THE UNIVERSE >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I'm back - it's three weeks later and just popped in to say I bought a hard
cover "Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide" at Borders , it contains....
1)The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
2)The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
3)Life,the Universe and Everything
4)So Long, and Thanks for the Fish
5)Young Zaphod Plays it Safe
6)Mostly Harmless
I'm loving it . and remember , D O N'T P A N I C

I agree with you about Zooey. She is very cute in a natural Hitchhiker-esque way and she is one of the things that saves the film.
I think Martin Freeman is a very good actor also and has a very british personality. He is a more self-confident Arthur than the one portrayed in the books/ radioseries, but he still has much Arthur-potential.
Mos Def is not Ford Prefect to me. The movie has not a real Zaphod either.

The worst thing about the film is though that it isn´t funny nor clever. They can´t even deliver the original jokes... sometimes they tell the joke without the punchline, how retarded isn´t that.
The reason i still can see the movie for it´s own merits is because of the new original Douglas Adams-material it cointains. We also all know how willing Adams was with changing the sourcematerial when translating it to different mediums, and that´s why one has to sort of accept it. But again, i don´t find the film funny nor clever and it´s boring to watch.
