Theme song

Does a high-quality .mp3 of the series theme exist? I know you can get the Eagles version easily enough, but I would love the tv version. Thanks for the help.

You know, it just occurred to me that you might be able to rip your very own MP3 right from the DVD...

The only "true" audio version of the TV series theme can be found on the vinyl LP "The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy", which came out on ORA records in 1979. The BBC decided not to release the radio series at that time, so a full cast recording (with a different Trillian) was released of episodes 1-4 instead.

The version of "Journey to the Sorcerer" on that is exactly the same version as on the TV series (which appeared about 15 months later), and is arranged by Tim Souster. If you rip the vinyl, you get a pretty decent mp3.

The 7" single (which also features songs by Disaster Area and Reg Nullify) was actually used to promote the second "Hitch-hiker" LP (called, of course, "Restaurant at the End of the Universe") which was a cast recording of episodes 5-6, released in 1980 just before the second book and the TV series). The 7" features ANOTHER Tim Souster reworking of the Eagles track - but it is NOT the version as used in the TV series.

So - if you want a decent mp3, get the "Hitch-Hiker's" cast recording LP from 1979 (which was also available on cassette - but has never been re-released on CD).
