An idea for 2012 instead ofdreaded reboots

An idea:

Instead of a re-boot of the series, how about a continuance? For example, open at a funeral for Ralph who died of a heart attack (insert old theme song as the coffin gets buried) and we see the son of Ralph and Pam, played by, say, David Gallagher and the son of Bill (also an FBI agent) played by Nicholas Brendon.

After the credits we see David cleaning out Dad's things with Nick helping, when they happen on the suit. David's character jokes about it thinking it's just a costume.

(commercial break)

FOUR MONTHS LATER

David arrives early for a costume party at Nick's and while joking around they discover what the costume can do. Shocked, but only long enough to be interrupted by the original aliens who detected someone other than Ralph had the costume on.

If we see the aliens, if they get instructions, finally, etc I don't know. But I'm tired of reboots. ;-)

I like that idea. A continuance would be so much better than a reboot.

I just felt it would be a different take than a reboot from square one.

I like the idea as you could pepper stories about the suit that took place after the show went off the air. The only thing that I would change is have it as Bill's funeral not Ralph's. Unfortunately, Robert Kulp isn't around anymore so it would make the most sense for it to be his funeral. This way you could bring back Katt and Selleca. Hey, it would be a GREAT inside joke for fans of the original if they brought back Michael Pare and he became an FBI agent because of Maxwell. The thing that Tony Villacona hated he became. Maybe he could be the new duo's boss.

reply

My idea was hypothetical anyway. They could also have Ralph turn over the suit himself.

I'd like to see a one time movie in which William Katt would reprise his role as Ralph Hinkley.

I'm with most people in that if they have a funeral have it be Bill's. This still would allow for a decent and more proper handover of the suit to a new group, i.e. the greenguys decide that the combination of Ralph's age (Katt is nearly 62 in real life, Ralph's age is slightly younger in the original script (about 27, so Ralph's about 60 now) and Bill's passing that it's no longer safe for him to wear the suit anymore - leading to a handover of a new wearer and team.

It's not that I *couldn't* see a handover in the way you mention it - but given that most of the original cast is still alive (and Connie and Katt do not look like they're in their late 50s early 60s - well here moreso if Katt would cut his hair to a shorter length again) why NOT use all your assets? They've used most of the living cast of "Dallas" in the remake to a benefit, so it can and does work.

(but any handoff other than the way they attempted with "GAHeroine" - which was NOT in character with Ralph, would be an improvement).

It was just a general idea, anyway. I'll let the professional writers do their job. But seeing the aliens and a more confident, thanks to the instruction book, hero would work better with today's audience; IMHO. Leave the goof/joker up to the other characters. (Why I suggested N Brendon .... basically Xander all grown-up like. :-) )
