Missing songs due to rights on dvd..

Iam sure you all know, but now someones uploaded the entire series on youtube with all original songs included. One episode that stands out is Classical gas, it features ralphs students singing a bad company and free songs. and signing brass in pocket at the end. Not only were the songs edited out on the dvd but a ton a footage is missing too..

Sounds like we're better off watching it online.

Re: Missing songs due to rights on dvd..
Classical Gas suffered the worst from having the originally used songs cut... for the exact reasons you mentioned. Because the songs were actually involved with certain scenes/dialogue rather than just background music that could be replaced.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I remembered a few of those, and remember how integral the songs were. Too bad all this copywrite stuff ruins things...but I was still thilled to get the dvds.

I'll def be checking out the YouTube versions!

reply

The worst example is in "Operation: Spoil Sport". Ralph tells Bill on the phone that his radio started playing "Eve Of Destruction" and wonders if the aliens are contacting them. However, on the DVD, it doesn't play "Eve Of Destruction", but is replaced by another song, making the scene not make sense.

reply

I agree - that was beyond 'don't give a shít'.

They make sure to cut the song (to save $$$) but forget to cut the line referring to the song.

(sigh)

They did the same with Jump st and Booker.Wiseguy excluded entire episodes because of music rights issues.I was able to get get everything but Wiseguy uncut though.I bought a region free DVD player and got the German dvd set of Jump st,the Australian set of Booker and the Spanish set of Greatest american hero. All uncut with original music.Easier and faster just to watch on youtube for free but i prefer having the DVD's in my collection.

I always wondered if Jump Street was released anywhere 'uncut'.

Good to know about the German DVD release. Thanks for posting the info!

Doom--Wasn't easy.It took a lot of Googling and searching before i found an uncut release.I bought the European release complete series box set. It's worth it though. Not only did the US DVD's gut the original music but i was surprised to learn that they cut scenes from some episodes.Music rights issues i can understand but editing out scenes doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, I had heard they used the 'syndicated' versions (see: CHOPPED) on the USA DVDs, which drives me crazy.

Cutting the original music is bad enough, but using syndicated versions (when the original versions are available) is just (to me) lazy.
