Can we all please agree...

That the film should NOT star Owne Wilson and Ben Stiller. Did you all miss 'Starsky and Hutch' and not see the original???

Also Will Ferrell for similar crimes against comedy.

No camp remakes PLEASE!!!!!!

I put my cast back into the arena:

Hinkley - Mathew Perry
Maxwell - Elliot Gould
Davidson - Jennifer Connelly

By the way...the drinking game rocks!

I totally agree with you about not using Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, or Ben Stiller in a GAH film. I don't have the same choices as you concerning who SHOULD BE in the movie, because I think that the cast should be younger. But that's ok, we can agree to disagree. :-)

Hinkley - Jason Biggs
Maxwell - Gary Sinise
Davidson - Jennifer Morrison

reply

What has happened to gary Sinise's sense of humour!? I think the whole CSI franchise has shrivelled up his soul!!

reply

My cast:
Ralph: Matthew Perry
Bill: Bruce Campbell
Pam: Jennifer Connelly

reply

I personally think Jennifer Connelly is great, but I don't like her for Pam's role because she's TOO much like Connie Sellecca. I'm not sure who I'd cast, but I think younger is better. Since Ralph's single-parenthood was dropped even in the series, perhap they could rework the premise a little for the modern audience.

I'm not opposed to modifications to characterisation, if they're done right. Perhaps Ralph, Bill and Pam could all be 'newbies' - Ralph is a new teacher, Bill just out of the academy, and Pam might still be in law school? I'm not suggesting they're all 'college buddies' (we still need a somewhat uptight Bill), but by being 'new' they're even more vunerable. Bill might be 'uptight' rather than 'cynical'.

Then again, its starting to sound like the Odd Couple again ...

Take this post with a grain of salt, its my first.

I think this is an execellent choice. I loved this show so much and I would hope that they do the show justice. So the cast would be cool Bruce Campbell is the best and I could see him as Bill.

reply

Honestly The Bruce Campbell idea is really both odd and genius.

I say this because when ever I wached Burn Notice I swear the casts chemistry is so perfect it reminds me of GAH. The way the 3 main characters gel on Burn Notice is exactly the way the 3 main characters were GAH. Plus 2 guys, 1 girl...and I swear Bruce channels Bill Maxwell in every episode.

He'd be 100% perfect for the role of Agent Maxwell. I also agree, I'm in the minority but, I think Owen Wilson could pull off Ralph.

reply

I hadn't thought of Campbell of Bill, but that is absolute genius! Of course, in the spirit of taking older tv shows and turning them into movies, the role should be offered to William Katt first. His hair isn't near as curly, and if it was cut short, he'd be fine. Other than that, I haven't figured out anyone for the other roles. I do like the Jennifer Connolly as Pam idea, too.

What's....this....ruckus?

reply

Rachel McAdams - Davidson
Adam Sandler - Ralph Hinkley
Tommy Lee Jones - Maxwell

reply

Hinkley - Topher Grace
Davidson - Alyson Hannigan
Maxwell - Patrick Warburton
or Ryan stiles
orSteven Colbert
or Dennis Leary
or French Patrick
or Mathew Perry
or Brendon Frasier.

reply

Agreed but I'd like to throw Jason Bateman's name into the pot for the part of Ralph. Love Matthew Perry, but he's too old for wide-eyed naivete. Jason Bateman did it ever so nicely in 'Hancock' - a real boy scout.

reply

how about
Topher Grace- Hinkley
Patrick Warburton- Maxwell
Alyson Hannigan-Davidson

reply

Matthew Perry is too old to play it so you want Jason Bateman? JB is 7 months older than MP

reply

Ohhhh Bruce Campbell - GENIUS!!! Yes!!

Jennifer Connely - yes, I can get behind that
Someone else mentioned Brendon Frasier - he's a little old, but I can see him in in it - he's good at naive goofy.

I think William Katt was not all that young himself when he was in it.

THANK YOU! Before even seeing this thread, I mentioned in another, PLEASE no Stiller or Wilson. How they could get those two uggos to play characters originally portrayed by the very handsome David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser is beyond me. Although props for Snoop Dogg as Huggy Bear, they did right by that.

Bill Maxwell: Tommy Lee Jones or Richard Dean Anderson.

Elliott Gould is an interesting choice... Ted playing a role originally played by Bob... from "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice." But he's not nearly handsome enough to play my man Maxwell. Not even close.

reply

Gary Sinise or Tommy Lee Jones would be perfect for Maxwell! I actually like Owen Wilson as Ralph, though [ducks and covers]; but I don't want Ben Stiller anywhere near a GAH movie, even on craft service or as a key grip [what the Hell is a key grip?].

reply

Jennifer Connelly - Davidson
Brendan Fraser - Ralph Hinkley
Burt Reynolds - Maxwell

reply

You have to admit it though Ben Stiller was dead on for Hutch. He looked exactly like him.

reply

No Seth *beep* Rogan

Will Ferell or Jack Black.

I think they need someone younger for the role of Ralph. Jason Batemen is the one that jumped out at me. He can do the every guy kinda stuff. I dont have as to Maxwell. I have to think about that.

They need to get the casting right or forget it.

reply

BRUCE CAMPBELL BRUCE CAMPBELL BRUCE CAMPBELL!

I don't really care about any other actors as long as Bruce Campbell plays Bill

reply

Agreed....

No Ben Stiller, and, while you're at it, no Adam Sandler either

I agree with Bruce Campbell as Bill Maxwell, definately :-)

As for the others....

Rachel Weisz might be good as Pam Davidson

As for Ralph Hinkley....

Ben Affleck, maybe??

I thought he did rather well as George Reeves in 'Hollywoodland', so he may do well as Ralph Hinkley as well

reply

Hinkley - Owen Wilson

Maxwell - Nicolas Cage

Davidson - Jennifer Connelly

I think with the above actors you have a good combination of humour, drama and emotional emphasis.

Although Wilson might seem a hackneyed choice, he can bring to the character warmth, self-deprecation and a mind quietly ticking. Nicolas Cage can bring the hyperactivity and energy of Maxwell to the fore. Jennifer Connelly would be a great reprise of the "love interest" and steadfast friend.

reply

Owen Wilson is TERRIBLE. He must have an outstanding marketing team behind him, because the guy simply cannot act. He's made one film failure after another, he's always the same character regardless of the plot, and he ruins every movie he touches.

I agree; don't let him anywhere near a feature film, if one is ever made. He can't cut it as an actor. He should have gone into just about any other profession. He's one of the far too many talentless hacks who got into the upper earning echelon with no talent, no charisma, nothing.

reply

Count me in as another who thinks Owen Wilson sucks.

------

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

Ralph Hinkley-Matthew McConaughey
Pam-Neve Campbell
Bill Maxwell-(the man I originally suggested a few years ago) James Woods!!! (although, he'd also be a good candidate for Carlysle, Maxwell's boss)!!!

reply

I'm rewatching the series for the first time in ages and it helps that Bruce Campbell is slowly morphing into Robert Culp lol, it's almost ridiculous how similar they look.

My cast:
Jessie Eisenberg as Ralph
Cobie Smulders as Pam
and of course Bruce Campbell as Bill

Owen Wilson is too obvious IMO.

Oh, and for cryin' out loud keep Apatow and his merry band of nitwits away from this project!!

reply

I had not even thought of Bruce Campbell for Maxwell but now that I have I think it's the perfect choice.
