shareWho would you have as the cast if they made a modern day version?
I am a very decisive person, I think.
Hmmm, Let me give it some thought and get back to you on this! Thanks!
shareOff the top of my head here are my thoughts on an actor for Ralph. Depending on how comedic you would want to go (and I am hoping it wouldn't be too comedic) I'm thinking Sam Huntington from Being Human, Owen Wilson, or Bradley Cooper. But since Bradley has already been in an 80 remake (A-team) I'm thinkin Sam Huntington might be the best choice of these three. I think it would also be interesting to see Ralph as a Male Nurse in the reboot vs a teacher. Male Nurses are still a bit rare and serves the "duck out of water" situation Ralph always seemed to find himself in.
As for Bill Maxwell I have to give that a little more thought. Hope you approve. Thanks!
Rob
I just purchased the first season of Greatest American Hero at Walmart for $2.50 and from what Mr. Cannal said when he went to create the show it was suppose to be a comedy yet dramatic as well because I was 9 years old when this show first aired on ABC. I was a huge fan of the show immediately when I first started to watch it. I still say it has to remain in a comedic way though. If they are going to remake it leave it as Ralph Hinkley as a teacher and not a nurse. I am so sick of remakes that do not follow closely to how the original film was done or the TV show either.

Heck, that's easy:
Ralph - Jesse Eisenberg. A shoe-in, since he has nearly the exact same charisma that William Katt had back in the day.
Pam - Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I was impressed with her work in Death Proof and Scott Pilgrim. I think she would be good as Pam.
Bill - This one was a lot harder than Ralph and Pam. At first I thought Eddie Murphy, doing a rendition of Axel Foley as Bill Maxwell. Then I had an idea of Michael Keaton pulling it off. But then I remembered what Bill Maxwell was: Wingnut, too old for this but still wants to defend his country but mostly screws up sort of guy. He's a sort of guy who takes himself too seriously, and because of that becomes the butt of jokes by the everymen (Ralph, Pam, the special ed kids). That's when I realized who would REALLY be the best person for the job: Mark Harmon, essentially parodying his character on NCIS. Hey, there really isn't that much difference between Maxwell and Gibbs, when you think about it.
Spot on
shareHaven't read the other responses to this yet, but I'm currently listening to the Nerdist podcast episode with Nathan Fillion. He said this would be his choice if he could play any superhero. He may not have the curly blonde locks, but he'd be GREAT!
shareRalph Hinkley- Ryan Reynolds.
Bill Maxwell-Either Harrison Ford or Dennis Quaid.
Pam Davidson- Colbie Smulders.
I'm not sure a big screen GAH is a good idea right now. After seeing what they did with Starky and hutch,21 Jump st and what their doing with Dark shadows we would most likely end up with yet another spoofy comedy that pokes fun at the original premise rather than any kind of serious effort that would do the show justice.

That's the trouble with adapting a TV series for a movie, and vice versa. Trying to bring a project that's 10, 20, 30, or 40 years old into say, 2012 is a daunting task. Do you stick with the style or tone of the original series (much like Starsky and Hutch did), or do you update it for today's times (like The A-Team)?
I recall back in the late '90s they nearly got a film off the ground which would have been directed by Paul Rodriguez and featured Adam Sandler (!) in the lead role. Thankfully Disney grounded it.
Of course, casting the series' big three of Ralph, Bill, and Pam is going to be challenging. Back then, I would have thought of Owen Wilson for Ralph, Bruce Campbell for Bill, and Courteney Cox for Pam. Nowadays, I don't think Wilson or Cox would be ideal.
But if they did do this, I have but one recommendation: Let Bruce Campbell be considered for Bill Maxwell. He's very (and I mean VERY) well-known in the SF community. (Actually, to say that is an understatement.) Also, have you seen him on Burn Notice?
SMALLVILLE: 218 episodes...and SuperBlur?
I'm thinking seth rogen, similar hair style, comedic) as ralph, zooey deschanel as connie, and bruce campbell. (like him in burn notice too.) would be my picks.
shareYes! Bruce Campbell! Great idea.
shareBruce Campbell would NAIL the role of Bill Maxwell. Awesome idea.
As for Ralph, I think Zachary Levi might work. Granted, he's played a similar role already as Chuck Bartowski, but at least you could hit the ground running and I doubt he'd be expensive to get. Finding someone to play Pam, that's a tough one. Courteney Cox would have been good ten years ago, but we need someone younger. The funny thing is, I'm drawing a blank on age-appropriate brunette actresses for the role of Pam, since I assume you want Pam to be a brunette to make the requisite Lois Lane jokes. Rachel Bilson might be an idea; Mary Elizabeth Winstead isn't bad either. Ironically, Zach's co-star from Tangled, Mandy Moore, could also work.
No question, however, you have to update it. I might even make Ralph someone who works for the FBI as a computer analyst or something. A role where they wouldn't be out in the field, but Bill has to drag Ralph out there one time for a case, which could be the impetus for the plot of the movie.

"It must be humbling to suck on so many levels."---Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory
Bruce Campbell would be PERFECT as Bill...BC loves playing thay type!

They make this stuff up as they go along.
There is quite a potential for doing a continuation or reboot of the series and it maintain the charm of the original. There was a group who did a single story (sadly - it was good) this way. The difference was they ADDED another wearer, who gets a clone copy of Ralph's suit. She was admittedly a bit of the Holly Hathaway character but was a bit better thought out.
But that was small budget - I did see an attempt to continue it in a more serious vein, but that was shut down quickly when it was found out the guy was going to try and claim it was his own creation. (BTW from the few minutes we saw it was worse than "Greatest American Heroine")
"The A-Team" at least had a closer feel to what the show originally was but modernized a bit. It still had the camp, but yes it was a bit more serious.
"21 Jump Street" thankfully was done AFTER Stephen J. Cannell's passing, because I think he'd had a fit if he saw it.
(BTW - Starsky and Hutch is NOT an SJC production - he may have written for it but it wasn't his baby).
I like Jennifer Connelly for Pam Davidson. I don't know about the others, but Jennifer would be a defiant shoe in for Pam
shareI love Connelly as Pam, and Campbell as Maxwell is pitch perfect. Hinkley/Hanely, that one is a poser.... One could go over-ironic and cast Seth Rogen as sloppy fat dude who stumbles into being a superhero, but I really did like the Sam Worthington suggestion. He has that deer in the headlights look that would play well as Ralph.

Jonah Hill would be a great Ralph
Woody Harrelson as Maxwell
I think the best format for this is TV though rather than a movie. Maybe a three season close ended series arch. Season one, origin, character development and light hearted bumbling around. Season 2, becoming a pretty competent hero and some kind of tragedy. Introduction of a primary nemesis and darker in tone. Season 3, Hancock like disillusionment, redemption.
Good ideas! I'd welcome it!!
shareBruce Campbell is the only choice to play Maxwell.
shareI visit very several IMDB boards often/daily Psych, Monk, Rockford Files, My favorite Martian, Down Periscope...ETC, and when ever there is talk of Movies or restarting series with new casts.....THE SUGGESTIONS for replacements usually "Suck". But Campbell as Maxwell works very well as does Zoe or Jennifer Connelly but I will have to defer as to who would be best for Ralph to others.
