They should have.....
they should have made Bart a regular from the begining. I have always loved James Garner, but I came to appreciate and love Jack Kelly even more. They worked very well together.

One of my favorite Maverick episodes was "Two Beggars On Horseback," where Bart and Bret spend the show trying to outwit one another. That could have been fun to see on Bret Maverick and less forced than some of the plots they had.
