John Waters

I bought this movie last year after hearing John Waters talk about it in his Christmas show.

The first time I watched it I didn't have feelings one way or the other about it.

I watched it again a few weeks ago and realized just how well done the movie is. I wished that I had purchased the DVD because I have horrible VHS copy in which the colors run together and the sound is far less than perfect.

That being taken into consideration it must be a good film because I suffered through the quality issues to find out what happens.

Yep...long story short...its good. Give it a chance...or two.

John Waters will be doing commentary on the official DVD release in October 2006. It will be the 1st release of the film to have the colors restored to their full brightness!

I heard him on the radio station that my dad listens to all the time. It might have been NPR. I don't know, but he was promoting his new CD. Anyway, the interviewer asked him if there were any Christmas films that he loved. He mentioned this film, but used the title Christmas Evil instead of You Better Watch Out. Anyway, he described the plot. He said it's about a man who finds out he looks like Santa while he was shaving then impersonates him. He starts to make a list of the good boys and girls and on one night he decides to plunge down a Christmas tree. Two parents see him and he gets a sharp ornament and slashes their throats. (At this point I'm laughing). He then goes outside where the children of the town make a protective ring around him because they actually think that he's Santa. Then he gets away with murder.

Then interviewer asked him whether this film was a horror or a comedy. He said, "I think it's a religious film."

My dad and I couldn't stop laughing.

"I don't like so much freedom down there. It makes me tingly in my giblets."

I love John Waters. This movie is a Christmas tradition in my home and now it's on DVD and Im so happy! I must say John Waters is the king of commentary, All of his commentaries are as good or sometimes better than the film itself.

I wish I watched w/ the Waters commentary instead of the film. I had to get the rental back, and wasn't gonna watch 2 days in a row. I think I can guess what John probably enjoyed about it, including the soundtrack. For me, there were a few good scenes, but overall the pace really dragged.

I have the clamshell VHS that makes it look like a Disney movie. I have John Waters' Xmas album, which is lots of fun.
