Trivia Contradiction **SPOILERS**

"While many people think Harry does in fact fly off at the end, he actually just drives off the bridge and kills himself. An explosion is heard, but people mistake it for the sound effects of Harry's brother rolling down the hill into boxes."

OK. So it was all in Harry's mind, that the van magically floated away. But if it was in his mind, why did his brother look up at the sky, as if he saw something astonishing and miraculous? (Such as, say, a van magically floating away)

i don't know who has the authority to add trivia to a film but i've looked at other movies that have wrong, duplicate, misspelt entries,
after reading this trivia i checked the ending of the movie and there is definitely a loud sound, whether it's an explosion, the van hitting water, or the van hitting the railing is debatable,

but i choose to believe harry flew away

reply

Same here. When I watch this here on, I will choose to believe Harry and his van flew away, and went to The North Pole.

AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

I can see why this scene is confusing for many, myself included the first few times I saw it. Only when you carefully examine the film and the violent sequence just before he goes off the edge of the railing can you make the connection. But basically the entire sequence is in Harry's mind, and he only imagines his brother looking on in awe because all of his life, the most important thing to Harry was to prove to Phil and the rest of the world that Santa Claus does in fact exist. We really don't know how Phil reacted, only how Harry imagines he reacted. The boom we hear but don't see signifies that Harry actually goes off the edge and the van explodes, but in Harry's twisted mind he ascends into the sky just as he reaches his own "goodnight".
