The way they built up the suspense and his lunacy at the beginning was remarkable I thought they would just go into pointless killing within the first five minutes, but they really took their time. His character was priceless, one sad clown for sure. You almost felt bad for him in many ways.

This writer likes You Better Watch Out.I watched this film a number of years ago under it's more sellable title of Christmas Evil...and I thought I was getting a genuine Chiller,but it's not.I was very disappointed at that time
and vowed to have nothing to do with this film ever again...what a difference

This film is more a black comedy that is very PRO-CHRISTMAS with a star who is Excellent in his role as a man who wants to be Santa Claus.But is beaten down by the adult Scrooges that he must deal with.
He only becomes dangerous in this film when some adults become
nasty toward him outside the New York City Church and later when he takes revenge against his rotten co-worker.The children in this film all love him
and he never harms any of them(early on dressed as a classic version of Santa,
he does give the children at a party a rather ominous warning about being good).
If one watches this film as a black comedy then you might enjoy it to no end as I found myself doing this last Christmas season and ever since.Check out the Santa line up in the police station as well as the moments that cause the main character to go to his good children and bad children books where he keeps a list of naughty and nice kids...they are very funny moments.

shareThe key thing I love about this film is how it refuses to depict Harry as some kind of one-dimensional creep. By instead presenting Harry as a complex and flawed human being, this movie succeeds in making Harry a tragic figure who elicits a complicated blend of fear and pity from the viewer.
