You, and it seems most people who replied here, missed the entire point
of the scene. Also I read a couple of replies that talk about how this
would never be greenlit "nowadays", and that it's so not "PC".
Do you really think that someone spying on children through their windows
from a rooftop would be acceptable in 1980, or 1970. or ever?? NO, of course
it wouldn't. It's what makes the scene work. We can see from the beginning
that this guy isn't right in the head. The man thinks he is Santa, so he
sees nothing wrong with any of it. Now in reality, from a legal standpoint,
looking through a window with a telescope or binoculars is legal, since
the people don't have any shades on the windows. But the idea behind it
seems creepy to most people, so it is supposed to seem creepy to the viewer
or the movie.
The fact that you would even come here to ask others if it seems creepy to
them, tells me that you missed the point, since the obvious answer is yes,
of course it doesn't seem right, to ANYONE. It's just basic common sense.
