This is an INSANE movie….

….and I love it! It’s wildly inventive, dazzlingly colorful, plus the music can’t be beat! Many show stoppers here! And many tunes you probably know.

The fusion rock/big band number is quite awesome. It’s amazing how two different styles are seamlessly mixed together. And there’s Xanadu the music number, too. It’s so out there, you just have to see it to believe it.

Movies nowadays are too safe. Everything is by the numbers and oh so predictable. No one wants to take chances. That’s why I appreciate 70’s films (and early 80’s) so much. The musicals then were just insane. They weren’t afraid to really try new and crazy things.

Godspell. Tommy. Cabaret. All That Jazz. Fame . Xanadu (1980, but totally 70’s in spirit).

Musicals now are extremely rare. A muscial like Xanadu? Forget it. There’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch…. And nothing else close.

It would have sucked all to hell without Olivia Newton John.

Yes. I don't think I've ever seen her look lovelier.

The music actually is pretty good. ELO and Olivia delivered! The movie is prettty insane though.

I liked Mama Mia and Hairspray more than the others you listed (except Cabaret - but Cabaret is an excellent movie, not really a "musical")

Jesus Christ Superstar runs circles around Godspell.

You also left out Grease, which might be the best of all these.
