The dancing, something surprising

As I was watching the winddown dance scene with Gene Kelly on roller skates and many miscellaneous dance styles going on at once, something caught my eye...
White gloves and pop and lock moves. I hadn't seen the film since it came way back when, but I certainly had never noticed that the white gloves and MJ moves started here, odd odd.

Not odd when you consider that Kenny Ortega was the choreographer (and defacto co-director) of XANADU. He had worked with The Jacksons choreographing for their TRIUMPH tour.

reply

Hmmm, well, Xanadu was 1980 and the Triumph tour was late 81, but I guess it's a look he could have been working on behind closed doors for some time. I'd still be interested in understanding the timing of his creative process.

But it is kinda funny to think that the modern MJ look came from Xanadu ;)

You know, I've been looking everywhere but can't find any confirmation Ortega choreographed the Triumph tour, nor the official page nor the wikipedia page, nor Ortega's pages...

Actually, it was the US leg of the DESTINY tour. I always get those album titles mixed up.

hmm, then the question becomes:

"Did MJ lift the white glove style on his own from Xanadu or did Kenny Ortega bring the style to MJ".

I'm so curious to know how such an incredible trademark came to be...

Cool stuff!
