In "That's Entertainment Pt II" around the 1:23 mark Gene rollerskates up to the camera and says something like, "Hey, a big number on roller skates, hmmm..." he's referring to his famous rollerskate/tap number they'll show later, but it's kind of ironic considering what he'd be doing on skates a few years after that...

I think you are referring to IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER, where he rollers skates in an NYC neighborhood. He evidently loved roller skating, come to think of it, didn't he don the skates in an early scene with French kids in American in Paris?
