Deserved an Oscar Nomination for Best Song!!

These were the 1980 Academy Award nominees for Original Song:
WINNER
Fame: Michael Gore (music), Dean Pitchford (lyrics)
For the song Fame

NOMINEES
Nine to Five: Dolly Parton
For the song Nine to Five

Honeysuckle Rose: Willie Nelson
For the song On the Road Again

Fame: Michael Gore (music), Lesley Gore (lyrics)
For the song Out Here on My Own

The Competition: Lalo Schifrin (music), Will Jennings (lyrics)
For the song People Alone

I love Dolly's song, really like Willie's and the FAME numbers but surely Xanadu and Magic were as good as any of these songs!! (don't think I've heard the song from THE COMPETITION as it was not a hit record). And as another thread notes, XANADU was actually a bigger hit at the box office than FAME. If "Last Dance" could win in 1978 from the truly awful movie THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY why couldn't XANADU at least get a Best Song nomination when it produced a number one record and an additional top 10? I think at the very least "People Alone" should have been bumped for "Xanadu" (my top choice) or "Magic", and maybe "Out Here on My Own" as well for both XANADU hits.

I have never really thought of the Xanadu soundtrack as oscar nominated songs but yes i do think Magic would have been a worthy nomination,it is a beautiful song.
