One of the few things worse than this movie

was the musical based on this movie. I got a ticket as part of a season subscription and went on the vain hope that it wouldn't be THAT bad. It was.

Since the movie has a reputation of being so bad, YES, the musical is based from this movie and is suppose to be lovingly mocking the film.

But despite the poor reviews and box office numbers, there are MANY who still appreciate this film as a guilty pleasure.

It's one of my all-time favorite movies, AND my 17 year daughters as well. We watch it together several times a year, just for the fun of it.

If nobody saw the movie, only the play, how might they interpret it? Do they show the movie before the play just to make sure everyone knows what the intent of the play is?

The movie isn't perfect, no question on that, but it is clean and has a positive message about life. If the stageplay is mocking that, then there are no kind words to say. Especially as the stageplay requires knowledge of the movie so people go for a cheap thrill, but some of the same people whined they had no clue what was going on yet didn't bother to look up what a "muse" is, amongst other things...

I've never seen the play - indeed, when I heard that a stageplay was being made from the movie I had a facepalm moment. It's barrel scraping.

When I saw "Xanadu" the movie, it felt like a made-for-tv presentation, with musical numbers that are hit-or-miss. In a theater, I'd feel embarrassed at times as well, but at least I saw it at home.

The movie is too much "of its time" with disco rollerskating, which is unfortunate given its use of Greek mythology - there is some stuff that requires a little research. That doesn't mean the movie couldn't have done a better job at presenting it, though... but I won't hate the movie for that either...
