Is Xanadu a sequel AND a remake?

Is it possible that Xanadu is a sequel and a remake at the same time? "Cover Girl" (1944) stars nightclub owner, Danny McGuire, played by Gene Kelly. "Down To Earth" (1947) stars a Greek muse who influences a producer's show.

Personally I think they should have named Gene Kelly's character "Danny Miller", this would have made it a direct sequel to "Down To Earth"

Thanks so much brihar73 for these two film recommendations . I have not seen either one of these movies but will check them both out very soon . They sound really good and I am a fan of classic films too .

In that the plots of both Down to Earth and Xandadu feature muses you could call the earlier film an inspiration but I think calling it a remake is drawing a long bow.
