Surely this film must fall into the "so bad it's good category" or do any of it's cult fans disagree.

What, if any virtues, do you think think this film possesses?

The mainstream audience, well it never found one, but those that did go to the cinema to watch it back in 1980 must have been driven to the exits!

I ask in all seriousness, as Xanadu, like the Apple and Can't stop the music, does have a (small) but loyal fan base. So what is the attraction?

I think it falls into the "so bad it's bad" category.

Agreed, it certainly is not much fun. How on earth did this get the green light?
Maybe some bad films you just can't stop until they are released?
Then nobody goes to watch them and they sink.
