If re done who would you cast?

The acting was bad in this movie. I never thought Holly-Lyn Johnson could act. She screamed when she was trying to be excited. And her emotion just did not come off. She seemed more whiney. Ice Castles, Watcher, For Your Eyes Only. All whiny. Most of the others acted wooden.

So who would you cast if you could redo the movie?

This is my cast:

Mrs. Aylwood - Maggie Smith

Jan Curtis - Sarah Michelle Gellar or Hilary Duff or Judy Greer
Ellie Curtis - Dakota Fanning

Mike Fleming - Heath Ledger or Joaquin Phoenix or Hugh Dancy

John Keller - Christopher Lambert
Mary Fleming - Helen Mirren
Tom Colley - Gary Oldman

Helen Curtis - Amy Madigan
Paul Curtis - David Keith

Karen Aylwood - Unknown or up and coming (Leighton Meester?)

I really like some of your casting!

I think a lot of horror remakes are unjustified (psycho, the upcoming Wicker Man).

But the acting in this really lets it down! With a great cast it would be a great remake.

Thank you. Any casting ideas of your own?

Love all your choices except for Jan. I would cast Paris Hilton for that part, if just to keep it in the family since she is Kyle Richard's niece.

reply

Paris? Come on lets atleast get someone with talent not popularity.

Maggie Grace is the first to come to mind for me too, but Dakota Fanning, are u insane!?!?!

Maggie Grace looks to old. She's 22 but dosen't look it. I picked Dakota because of her youth and her stage presence. She can make you believe her character.

sure dakota's believable, if you want someone who acts like an 18 year old film grad student shrunken, then bound into a small girls body.

True she does have a grown up attitude. But I would like to think she could act the part. Hey if you can come up with someone else thats cool. Maybe an unknown for Elle's part.

I think Fanning would be good. She may have a wise head on her young shoulders, but she is a good actress who can do the innocence of Ellie well. IMO. Which probably counts for very little.

As fr Paris Hilton. i've never heard anything more ridiculous in my life! She has no talent at all and would therefore defeat the purpose of a remake with BETTER acting and she is certainly not popular where I'm from!
I liked the initial choices and would love to see a remake, or even the original again. I've not seen it for years. They just don't show it anymore...

If at first you don't succeed then Bungie Jumping isn't for you...

Ibought the original on DVD this past October. So you can still get it.

My suggested for a remake of " The Watcher in the Woods " ( 1981 ) is as follows.

Mrs. Aylwood - Angela Lansbury
Jan Curtis - Hayden Panettiere
Ellie Curtis - Dakota Fanning
Helen Curtis - Helen Hunt
Paul Curtis - Vince Vaughn
Mike Fleming - Jonathan Lipnicki
Mary Fleming - Wendy Crewson
Tom Colley - Colm Meaney
John Keller - Mel Gibson because he directed Ian Bannen in " Braveheart " ( 1995 )
Karen Aylwood - Kristen Stewart
Mrs. Thayer - Rebecca Gayheart
Young Mrs. Aylwood - Imelda Staunton

I am glad you like my choice of Angela Lansbury. But I did not suggest Hilary Duff for a role.

I love how every female child role in these "who would you cast" threads is ALWAYS Dakota Fanning... by the time this film would be shot and released, she'd be way too old for that role, anyway.

First off, I would say that if this movie were to be remade, Disney should not be the company to do it, unless they gave it to one of their smaller subsidiaries.
I think Ellen Kreuger, who wrote The Ring, could rework the script. This film had a LOT of problems in its day, including an incredibly anti-climactic ending. I'd get Krueger to clean up the script, modernize it, and make it truly frightening (and not just to kids), plus give a better and scarier explanation for where Karen has been.
Jan should be a teenage actress - not someone in her 20's like Sarah Michelle Gellar; otherwise, why would she come to England with her family?
The father character could be written out completely - he was barely there in the original, anyway. I think it would be neat to focus more on the people who where there the night Karen disappeared rather than just have Jan visit them once and stir up old memories. I see them all as aging alcoholics who meet every year on the anniversary of the night of her disappearance to share guilt and hold a seance to try to get her back.

I feel if this was redone, it'd be a direct-to-video release no matter who the cast is. The original would be better, though still seriously flawed because it's a movie made for teenagers & should be kept in that vein if remade.

I love this movie, but a remake would be interesting. I'm not sure if it would live up to the original, but overall I'd like to see it remade in the future. With the advances in cinema nowadays, they could make this pretty cool...
