Funny to me how Winger

was almost dismissed from being the leading lady for not being attractive enough when the original choice was...Sissy Spacek! Was Sissy Spacek actually considered sexy back in the early 80s?

Plus I thought Winger was just gorgeous in this. So adorable. I guess she was a real b*tch to work with but I really enjoyed her early 80s movies. She had a great onscreen presence.

I realize that everyone has their own vision of beauty, but Debra Winger NEVER did it for me. Not in any way, shape or form... Nothing. NADA.

I thought that Debra Winger stole the picture. As far as looks, one of my cousins was impressed that she looked good without makeup.

The whole tomboy look was considered "cute" for young women in the late 70s. It started to turn in the early 80s with women like Heather Thomas and Heather Locklear.

I think Debra Winger is lightyears more attractive than Sissy Spacek. I don't know what the film crew was thinking. I hear that Olivia Newton John was actually rumored to play the role of Sissy, since John and her did so well in Grease. ONJ did at least one country song in her career. That song being "Please, Mister, Please".

No one could've played Sissy better than Winger. Whether some viewers find her sexy or not is irrelevant. Her sex appeal came more from her sassy flirting and country gal charm. She caught Wes' eye when she called across the diner to him and asked if he was a real cowboy. Bud fell in love with her because she was an honest, straightforward, rough around the edges urban cowgirl. Pam was the superficially sexy woman, but Sissy had a heart of gold. She cried at Uncle Bob's funeral, Pam didn't. She cleaned up the house, Pam didn't.
