Bud Hitting Sissy
That scene pissed me off.
shareSometimes you gotta keep a woman in line...
shareReally? So that's why he comes crawling back to her at the end of the film apologizing for hitting her? Apparently he knew he shouldn't have done that. It's funny how men scream abuse at their wives...maybe women should just say well, we gotta do that to keep you in line.
I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.
And sometimes you have to kick some balls...

I agree...it would have made the last scene that much more special if Bud hadn't done that...

Bud had learned the error of his ways. I beleive he wouldnt have done it again. Not to mention what would you have done in her shoes.....stay with Wes?
shareShe did not know the first thing about being a wife, but hitting her was wrong.
shareThey didn't even have time to get to know wach other and then they were married. She didn't know how to be a wife and he thought he had to keep his wife in line.

Ah, yes. My favorite scene in the whole movie.
If I came home and saw the trailer looking like that, I'd smack her one too. Besides, she did challenge his manhood when it came to riding that mechanical bull. Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Well it worked, didn't it? They went off together in the end. Because Bud put his foot down as man of thr household. Women like that (and you know it)

I do agree that there is no reason to hit a female (unless she is coming after you with a knife) but the reason it is in there is to show how far bud comes in the movie, he starts out as a immature jerk and ends up realizing how he screwed things up

No man should ever physically hit a woman. EVER......AND if I'd ever run into a man that did...he definately wouldn't want to see me in a dark alley.
shareok bravesrule.. so if a woman is comng after you with a knife, you just let her stab you?? dont be a moron...
shareIf somebody came after me with a knife,, I would run like hell,, why you hitting the attacker no telling where he or she is slicing

And you should get hooked on phonics. The phrase is "he should not HAVE...", not "OF".
Ok first of all it wasn't like he beat her. It was a very light slap. It wasn't right, but he in no way meant to hurt her (like Glenn does later on). He didn't make her bleed and he wasn't even that angry. Plus like others have said here he was still immature and had a lot of growing up to do as far as being a husband. She also had to learn a lot about listening to her husband once and a while and not being so pig headed. The whole point of the movie is they didn't know each other that well but once they separated they realized how much they were meant to be together and grew up in the process.
He even apologizes for that slap later on at the end.

Why did it piss you off???, he did'nt hit you.......Sometimes ya just gotta......Look, it dont make any difference if it is male or female.Dont be sexist...There are women bigger than me, and stronger than me, so what is the difference??? And yeah what if she does have a knife, gun, or bat, and wants to hurt you???? Maybe you made her mad, and she slashed your tires, then proceeded to take a bat to your a**, well I dont know about you, but I would hit her for sure, and would worry about meeting ANYONE in a alley later.......I would'nt hit a women first, but if she hits me I hit her back, that goes for men too..Talk all the trash you want, but hit me, get hit back pretty simple to me..

It pissed me off because no man shouldn't be hitting on a woman. Also, it was unprovoked. She did not hit him or slash his tires or any of that other garbage you wrote. And it goes the other way too. No woman should be hitting anyone either.
shareIt's a freakin movie... get over it you weirdo...
shareTypical... I understand it's a movie and that it didn't really happen. However, you need to grow up. If someone put their hands on you and I was around to see it, I would feel the same way.

Anyone male posting here who's said they would hit a woman is either A) Just pulling people's leg, or B) Only on the same maturity level as Bud was early on in the movie. There is never a reason to hit a person who is smaller and weaker than you. Even if someone grabs a knife to try to even up the size/weight difference, there are moves that the person being attacked can employ to make sure that knife never reaches its target without seriously hurting the attacker. Now if it's a gun, that's different. The gun holder can still be taken out quickly and effectively without resorting to violence just for violence's sake (provided they're given the chance), but if one is doing it for retaliation then that reeks of immaturity and an inability to keep yourself in check. Learn from the people who've been practicing the arts for centuries; the one who loses themselves in anger has already lost the battle. The one with the cooler head will win every time.
Of course, the next step is to walk away from that marriage or relationship to prevent that situation from happening again. That's a natural second step for those mature enough to do the first one, however, so it's not a problem most of the time.
One day the little boys will grow up. In the meantime, I hope they don't hurt a woman because she didn't keep their trailer up to their satisfaction.

Oh, my gosh! There are actually people on this thread who say they'd have a physically violent reaction to poor housekeeping? Wow... therapy time.
