If David Copperfield wasn´t the killer and Doc who organised the party on the train didn´t hire him, what was he doing at the party?

So from that point of view the assistant hired the magician (david copperfield) for the party.That´s impossible,it is the other way around.THE MAGICIAN HIRES THE ASSISTANT for the party.So how can he be at the party with the assistant if Doc didn´t hire him???

Mo hired the magician. Doc asked who hired the magicain, and Mo said "maybe someone else came up with a good idea for once" or something to that extent. Meaning that though Doc had planned the party on the train, but Mo came up with the magician.
