Did I get an edited copy??

This is the first time I have seen the film, I purchased the only Region 1 copy of it available, but the only violence and gore in the entire film is implied and off camera, was this film extremely edited or were the deaths just never filmed? Being a fan of the slasher genre I was expecting the gore to be at the level of The Prowler or Friday the 13th, but granted this film was only released in 1980 maybe it was just before real gore began to appear in American slasher flicks.

No, you didn't get an edited copy of TERROR TRAIN. And the reason why it's one of my favorite thrillers is precisely because it WASN'T a bloodbath. The numerous murders occurred off camera for a reason: the fact that we never actually saw the killer in action only made the story more suspenseful and had the audience guessing the murderer's identity right up to the final 10 minutes. Remember, the original HALLOWEEN had no gore either and was absolutely terrifying. TERROR TRAIN was released early in 1980. The blood-drenched FRIDAY THE 13th came out that summer and was the first movie that earned the title "slasher flick", thereby paving the way for countless sleazy ripoffs.

Thanks for the informative response, I was hoping that this was the case but having never seen it before (not to mention the fact that I bought it at Walmart) I was skeptical. Looking forward to rewatching it again this week!

I believe it was shot in '79, that year's in the end credits, and so released almost a full year after filming.

How are these people finding anything at walmart? They don't have anything in their selection.
