Mo Getting Stabbed

How was the magician's assistant able to kill Mo with all of those people there?

reply

We'll never know about Mo, but a good magician is well skilled in slight of hand and audience distraction. When Alana asks Carne if he knows how the magic works, he says he does, but won't tell her how because he is sworn to secrecy. Kenny came well prepared that night with plenty of tricks up his sleeve.

I don't think anybody stabbed Mo at all, but that what we're seeing in the film is a revenge fantasy playing out in Alana's sleeping mind. If you watch the scene again nobody at the magic demonstration reacts with any concern for Mo's well being. They were also so enraptured by the disco magic show that it seems improbable. Mo's injury appears to have been spontaneously inflicted on him to make a fool out of Doc, who was the person responsible for the prank that drove Kenny insane. The "horror" of the moment isn't so much Mo's injury but Doc freaking out over it and not being able to get ANYONE to listen to him at all.

Which is a known facet of dream psychology: The recurrent theme of knowing some detail and not being able to communicate it to others, or having others dismiss the concern and continue with their activities while one stands there in distress.

Geez dude, you sure want everyone to know about this dream interpretation of yours. Every thread I've clicked on has had one of these posts.

If you freeze frame the scene with the Magicain's assistant reappearing. Watch her right hand as she folds the Robe. You can see the knife in her/his right hand. As people are paying attention to the Robe She stabbed Mo.

reply

Ummm, no. There's no knife in her / his hand. If anything, Copperfield PROBABLY stabbed Mo. He REAPPEARS RIGHT NEXT TO MO! They never showed the assistant ANYWHERE near Mo. & how Kenny is Copperfield's assistant is never explained, I think they were a team then Kenny killed Copperfield when he didn't need him anymore. Genius, really.

I seem to recall when Copperfield's assistant reappears, she's standing right next to Mo in that scene. He makes a comment about making his assistant reappear for his next act while standing next to Mo, holds the sheet up, and when the sheet drops, it's the assistant.

I don't think Copperfield's character was involved at all. He was totally a pawn, used by Kenny, then killed and hidden so he'd be suspected. It was obvious to me in his final dialogue to Alana at the end that he fancied himself a better magician than Copperfield's character was.

I love to love my Lisa.
