Maude Adams

The writer of this story, Richard Matheson, based his attraction to the actress Maude Adams for this story: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5155958/

She was really pretty and had died way back in 1953. When Matheson was born, she would've been well into her fifties - a huge age gap between them. I think that's why he probably thought up the idea of 'traveling back in time'.

The more I study it, the greater the puzzle becomes.

I also remember a similar idea in I believe a Ray Bradbury story. This one didn't involve time travel but in it a guy falls in love with this picture of this beautiful woman but finds out the picture is decades old and she's now elderly

Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything.

In a Kojak episode today, someone called Maud Adams was one of the actors!!!

It's not "sci-fi", it's SF!

Yes, I thought she was a Bond girl.

She must be aware of the resonance of her name as Anne Hathaway or indeed Jane Seymour are.
