I'll describe the movie and you tell me the title

The year is 1912. An American male becomes infatuated with a British girl of high society. He pursues her and wins her heart, but the dominant male figure in her life has other plans. He finagles his way into their formal dinner and charms her and her overweight friend, but makes no friends among the male patrons. Secretly, they court. At one point, when the couple find themselves alone in a bed room, the films main love theme is played on piano while the female lead removes pins from her hair and undresses. Some time later, she is seen having her picture made while the male lead is present. The subtle smile in the picture turns out to be directed at the male lead. The picture plays a role in events that occur decades after the films main plot sequences. Tragically, the couple is torn apart. The woman lives to an old age, carrying with her a relic of their relationship that had been considered lost to time. The man dies young. At the end of the film, when both are dead, their spirits are reunited at the ages they were when their romance blossomed. The film was known for being rewatched multiple times in theaters by adoring fans. The soundtrack and love theme were among the best selling movie soundtracks of all time.

Titanic

Until reading this, I never thought of the similarities between that movie's plot and Somewhere in time.

I've read that James Cameron counts Somewhere in Time as a partial inspiration for his fictional Titanic storyline of Jack and Rose. Also, on a smaller scale, Rose's white gown at the very end of Titanic was inspired by the one Elise wears in her play, and has her portrait taken in. There are definite similarities.

He must have taken the photograph of a woman already in love with the time traveler idea from this movie as well, for The Terminator.

I forgot to mention that the movie starts in the present, flashes back to 1912, and ends in the present.

Oh, Titanic still.

Yes James Cameron was a huge fan of SIT, and purposefully alluded to it in many ways. I think he did a good job of it.

I knew it! I thought it was just Deja Vu.
