recently spotted a flaw

After watching this movie for the first time in HD on Netflix live streaming I noticed a flaw near the end. BTW, just to make clear I'm a fan and want to emphasize the HD version is the best picture quality that i have ever seen of this movie. Anway, after Richard comes back and is totally distraught that he doesn't eat for about a week, he DOES apparently find the energy to shave because his face is indeed clean-shaven til the very end. In reality, it seems to me that he would have lost all motivation to do anything and should have had a beard when he died.

You can read about this in the "Goofs": "When Collier is found sitting motionless in his room, he has been there for "days" after listlessly wandering about for some time. Nevertheless, he remains clean-shaven. We know he has a beard, because he has struggled to shave with a straight razor."

No flaw. Richard is so distraught that he slips into a comatose state, which slows down his body processes and facial hair growth. Haha, I'm probably joking!

Can't be, there is slight facial hair growth even after death but that's not the point, some people do things automatically, maybe shaving was one of these things for Richard.

reply

Hair (and nails) does not grow after death, because glucose is no longer being produced. It just appears that way because the skin is receding as it dehydrates.

Thank you for bringing that up! That inconsistency has always bugged me...he died of a broken heart where he doesn't eat or drink but manages to appear immaculate and clean shaven?
