This movie was horrible!

I don't know anything about the books but I do know plenty about the Titanic. This movie told all kinds of lies about the Titanic. The Titanic is not as intact, the ship split in two etc. Anyone agree?

dude,
First of the books are great, but the film really wasn't! but to fill you in.

The film was made in 1980 the book was written in 1976.
As you claim to know about the titanic, its odd that you didn't know that bob ballard didn't find it until 1985!
Witness accounts only talked about the one of the funnels breaking off - not the cameron-esque ship splitting in two.
So it was always presumed that the ship was intact, hence Cusslers whole premise of raising it.

the film did suck though, great score by john barry mind

Indeed. The movie pretty much sucked, but the book was based on the best guesses at the time about the Titanic sinking.

At the time the book was written and the movie made, it was just about as good a guess as anyone. I remember seeing the movie when it came out and falling alseep during it...so it wasn't a great flick.

People did claim to see the ship break in 2 pieces. It was largely disputed during trials because there were those who thought Titanic was still the ultimate ship and couldn't have broken in 2 pieces even though it sank and now lies on the bottom of the north atlantic. As for why the ship is in one piece in the movie, it was made 5 years before the ship was found; they also went by the general rulling of the trials that the ship didn't break.
