BLU-RAY combo from Shout Factory on January 21, 2014!

Stunned to see this go up on Amazon just today:

Knowing Shout's generosity with supplements, I can only imagine they provide some modest goodies for this one. And I can finally retire cherished Aussie DVD I had to import years ago because it was the only one out there in anamorphic widescreen.

Can't wait for this. With every new release, it's like Shout has known me all my life. :)

Yeah, I'd heard that this was in the works for a while. There's a guy out there who's collected the cut footage and whatnot. He's posted on boards that he'd been working on a Blu-Ray with a company.

Maybe this is it!

This could be awesome, I have my DVD copy from UK and its the only one with a good quality and 16x9 format screen.
If the bluray format is coming, thank God for southsby :)

I have watched the Blu-ray, but i sadly have to inform that the image quality is not good.
It completely lacks the full restoration, which means that the image is extremely grainy and the underwater scenes are so dark, that it is nearly impossible to identify anything.

Waste of a Blu-ray release actually. It would had been better of being released to all the FTA television networks out there, so that people could watch this bad HD version on these channels for free.

The blu ray looks wonderful for a 1980 film. Yeah, its probably from a dated transfer, but it looks better than the pan and scan videotape I had. They never promised a full blown restoration in the first place. And the underwater scenes look good in a semi darkened room. Just glad to have an anamorphic widescreen print of this classic.

Well, I got mine, and the DVD doesn't play very well in my computer's drive. It eats up a lot of resources for some reason.
