Curtis wasn't terribly clear but, correct, she was referring to the Leonard Mirch subplot, the obvious "Halloween" rip-off aspect, which is what Simpson forced them to tack in after the original shoot. That's not in the original screenplay, and Bill Gray said he had nothing to do with scripting any of it. Not all of those scenes were directed by Paul Lynch either, although I forget which ones he shot vs. which ones he didn't. I haven't listened to the commentary yet so perhaps it's stated on there.
Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up.
Yeah, the Leonard Mirch plot is by far my least favorite in the film. You keep expecting something to happen that will add anything to the main plot and nothing does. I wonder what would be the use of Nick's father without that plot lol.
But you know, there's one thing good about keeping Mirch in the story. The police found someone to blame for Robin's death so the case was closed. On the contrary there would be a more minucious investigation and they would certainly get to the kids.
Remember Kim saw Nick walking outside the windows of the abandoned building a few minutes before Robin's death. If the police decided to really question him, I think he'd say something about what they did. But since Mirch was in the picture, it was easier to frame a known sex offender than a group of kids.
