prelude to Tim Burton

I haven't seen this in years. It was a real turn off and dissapointment. Seeing it thru fresh eyes, and giving credit to the poster I can't remember, this is almost a Tim Burton film. It isn't perfect or truly great but you can see the elements. It probably would have a better appreciation if it came out 10 years later.

The cast is perfect, the movie has a funky look and some dark overtones. It is an odd mix of camp and darkness. It is similar to Burton's Sleepy Hollow.

I would say it's closer to another Tim Burton movie --but not one he directed, one he produced:

CABIN BOY.

The set design, the understated cinematography, the eccentric atmosphere... it's all there.

I don't think it would have been popular ten years later. I think it had good timing.
