had i ever met Robin, i would've told him this is a good movie.

(Famous) people on the other side of us (audience members) don't always have a grasp on reality... They hear criticism in the media, and they might conclude that this is the perception that the whole population feels... Not true.

Robin is (was) embarrassed by this film because the critics panned it. I always thought that if i ever met that man i'd tell him how influencial this film was for me and how he WAS the incarnation of Popeye and a hero to the kids.

I always wish they'd make a sequal, bringing back all the living cast, showing them in their older years. Popeye would now be Poodeck Pappy's age, all old and grizzled. Would've been cool. Forget it now.

Williams seemed to come around to liking this film in his later years. As the years passed, we saw it for the work of art it really is.

As for living members, Paul Smith died in 2012, and now Williams. I don't know who else is still around.

Wimpy, Dweezil, and Olive Oyle are all still alive. But yeah, you kind of need Popeye, if you're gonna do a Popeye movie.

Yes, I'd tell him the same thing.

Great post! I also wish I would have been able to tell him that this movie touched my heart and that I'm sure there are many others who feel the same. Long live Popeye!
