When I was a child me and my brother wore this movie out, especially once we got it on VHS. I hated musicals as a child but I loved this one, and most adults my age also tell me they love this movie so well, so I am not sure for all the hate. Oh well

Its a great movie! I just got to share it with my son. And it feels so special that I can share a great film like this one with him. He really enjoyed it as well. Its a classic in my book!

I'm old enough that I had seen older Popeye cartoons. So when I saw the movie, it was like the cartoons had come to life. No one could've played Popeye any better than Williams, and Shelly Duvall was like the cartoon Olive Oil come to life.
It's a strange movie because Popeye the cartons WERE sort of strange. I mean, you got this guy who eats canned spinach for strength, and goes around beating people up, especially the big guy (Brutus?), who is constantly kidnapping Olive Oil, a beanpole of a gal with a weird hairdo and high pitched voice that Popeye and Brutus both just looooove for some reason.
Lol. I grew up watching the cartoon. I do love this movie. I have watched it over and over an every time I see or hear something I haven't before.

It should be against the law to use 'LOL'; unless you really did LOL!
I think it is just ok. I think it could have been so much better. the casting was great. Every character played by the perfect person, but it should have gave more. It should have been funnier. It left me feeling a little underwhelmed and should not have.
