Remake
Who would you cast as the central characters (Popeye, Olive Oil, Bluto) in a remake?
shareI think Jason Statham would be a pretty good Popeye, but that's if they took it into a more action route, as opposed to a musical comedy.
shareWell he does really good characters but I don't think he could do the spirit of Popeye justice. I also think if they cast him then they would try to have Popeye and Olive have a sex scene. I think only true way to do Popeye is action comedy.
The name is Stephen and I'm male.

Rebecca Hall as Olive Oyl.
shareCall me unimaginative but, I can't see it happening. The original is so timeless.
shareI agree, although Hollywood is remaking every film ever made right now, I think the original can't be touched. In addition to that, most kids nowadays have no idea as to who Popeye is. He was very popular decades ago but doesn't seem very relevent in todays society, sad to say.
shareSean Penn as Popeye, Keira Knightley as Olive Oyl, Brad Garrett as Bluto, Verne Troyer as Swee'pea.
share"Verne Troyer" made me spew coffee out my nose!!!
shareJim Carrey... just youtube search "In Living Color Imposter"
i always love that one
That could work. Although I still feel a remake wouldn't be able to catch the spirit of this movie.

What works wonderfully as a cartoon will not translate to the big screen and this is one of them.
Its that man again!!
I thought they translated it very well in this movie, and they could with a modern movie as well.

Yea Jim Carrey is perfect. I think he is being cast in the remake anyway.
shareI think the original cast was perfect. I'd just buy everyone some plastic surgery and give them a GOOD script this time...
shareThe Jonas Brothers, entirely shaved.
shareIt could work as a animated movie..Pixar-style and maybe use a different story.
shareThis movies is such an odd work successfully combining a rare confluence of distinctive talents that it would be a fool's errand to remake it. It was a close to a miracle that this one was not an utter disaster. Given what has been done to Star Trek and many other cartoon or TV based movies, I would expect the disaster with certainty on any remake.
