My friend says this movie sucks hard. Is that true?

I had brought the movie, but did never pack it up because I did'nt have time to see it. Then my friend said it sucked - really bad! He said there was no suspense, almost no zombies and it was slow moving, so I decided to (also because he already had the movie) return it to the store. Was that a good thing? Do you even agree with my friend. I haven't got to see the movie yet and my friend has "banned it from his house" and have also returned it.

The Boogeyman is real... and you've found him!

Your friend is an idiot. Seriously, this is one of the best horror movies out there. Lucio Fulci is a genious, and never dissapoints. You owe it to yourself to watch this movie.

reply

Give it a chance, watch it, and decide for yourself. When I first watched this it was pretty boring. I saw it a second time and had a better appreciation for it.

R U drunk or do u always write like a retarded lemur?

Nothing exists more beautifully than nothing.

reply

Hey! Don't diss lemurs! Anyway, I didn't really find anything special from this one. The soundtrack was really uninspired. At times it even sounded like dawn of the dead, but mostly just zombie. The ending was kinda crappy too. I didn't really like zombie either. It's a shame. I'd heard so much about Lucio, in the end, all of his movies disappointed me. The directing was better in this one than zombie though. I do give him that. Unless you are a hardcore Fulci-fan, I'd say stay away from this one. Like zombie, it is VERY slow-paced, and there really ISN'T much in the zombie department.

reply

Why the Hell did'nt you just see for yourself ????? Do you do drugs when he tells you to, too ??? Have your opinion - watch for yourself. If you DID like it, you'll have a chat with him about movies ! Simple as that !!!:-)

your friend has sex with animals.

I'm sorry to say this but this sucked soo bad, it's boring, it's dull, no carnage, and no suspense, it sucked really hard.

reply

It was beyond boring. Nothing happened the first 20 minutes, than some gore (which was OK to some extend), than more nothingness and than an abrupt end. Nah, not for me!

Dodge this.

reply

Ya this movie is a piece of garbage. And i actually liked Zombi 2 The Beyond and House by the Cemetary.

reply

It wasn't horrible, but not great either. You really have to enjoy Italian horror to really enjoy it.

The dead priest's appearances were cheesy. The gut vomit scene was ok at first but it went on forever and became cheesy.

The scene that made me wince was the drill bit scene. OUCH!!!

Most of the end didn't make sense.

Some of the gore was done nicely, some was pretty bad.

The music in most of these Italian horror movies suck to me. They add rock music to the soundtrack and it sort of diminishes the suspense. That's one of the things I hated about Suspiria and Zombie.

reply

WTF? Would you rather have another generic orchestra score instead of Goblin and Fabio Frizzi?

No, that was a very stupid thing to do, because the film has tons of zombies in it and it's extremely violent. It also has very good Lovecraftian story at it's center, told with a rather slow deliberate pace.

It has amazing music by composer Vince Temperra, conducted and played by Fabio Frizzi. Everyone always makes the mistake of thinking Frizzi made all the music for many of Fulci's films, but he didn't do much composing back then, Temperra did and Frizzi usually only conducted and played the mellotron at the time. At least according to himself in interviews.

It has Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Catriona McColl and one of its scenes was copied in KILL BILL 2.

It also has two of the most infamous violent scenes in gore cinema:

-A scene with a large drill being drilled completely through a head in full close-up.

-A person puking up their entrails, also in full close-up and several camera angles.

Gino De Rossi (not to be confused with Gianetto De Rossi (no relation) also of Fulci fame) did the effects. He recently did the effects in Italy for Casino Royal.
The very end is somewhat of a letdown, but only the last three or four seconds. (It's a still frame with a ripple effect) The ending ended up that way because negative to the ending they shot got damaged and they couldn't afford to go back to the United States and re-shoot it.

This is after all a severely low budgeted film, but it looks like it was made for about two or three times the amount they had. Well, except for the botched ending of course.

You made a big mistake, but since your friend has it and it's banned from his house you should tell him in no fewer words that you're royally pissed at him and his deceit and that if he doesn't give you his copy of CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD you'll tell his parents about his bestiality.

Like one of the other posters mentioned it's quite obvious your friend enjoys sex with animals. Does he have a dog or any other pet? If so, it's your duty to rescue it.

Go over to his place demand his copy of the film and save his pet!

I saw this movie when I was so little, this was the earliest horror films I have seen back in the 80's and I couldnt finished watching it the second time because of that scene where someone grabbed someone's back of the head and brains was coming out man I threw up. Seriously. I had my aunt rented this movie for me 2 times and I would never forget this movie. i would buy this copy and watch it again to refresh my memory because I spent years fighting myself not to watch it again.
